Sarah Gibbons: Woman of Faith

Thomas and Sarah Gibbins imageThere is a story about Sarah Gibbons who, after her husband Thomas died, opened her home in Wanship to board strangers passing through as a way to make a little money to take care of her family. One day a stranger came to the door and said he was hungry and could she feed him? She invited him in and told him she didn’t have much, they were running low on food, but she was willing to share what she had and proceeded to make something for him to eat. After visiting with the stranger for a while, she left the room to take care of something and when she returned, the stranger was gone. She was curious as to where he went, so she went outside and looked all around the property, which was pretty wide open and filled with sagebrush so she was sure she would have been able to see him walking in the distance, but he was nowhere to be found. When she went back into the house, to her surprise, she found that the cupboards were full as well as the flour bin! She wrote in her journal that she perhaps was visited by one of the 3 Nephites or the Savior’s Apostle, John. She was a woman of great faith and was a great example to her posterity.
